Food security should be a priority in policies on social equality, health and nutrition. The project addresses the socio-economic and political factors to be considered for an inclusive transformation of the right to eat with dignity, focusing on those that condition access to adequate food and, therefore, to health, and that require social equity policies to mitigate structural inequalities.
Focusing on two cities in Catalonia, Barcelona and Tarragona, AlimenTrAccion aims to produce knowledge from places where vulnerabilities are accentuated both by the socio-economic transformations of the environment itself, and by the precarious living conditions of some of its inhabitants. We understand that cities are spaces where socio-economic disparities tend to be amplified, particularly in neighbourhoods that face greater difficulties in achieving social cohesion.
Food insecurity could be particularly affecting women, who suffer greater poverty and social exclusion due to unequal exposure to income, responsibilities and access to basic goods and services.

OBJECTIVES
The study has three general objectives:
- 1. To review the conceptual and normative framework that incorporates food security into health, nutrition, and social equality policies, studying those raised by the right to adequate food, inclusiveness, and gender equity as a priority area of action.
- 2. To characterize urban environments, considering the main social, economic, and environmental conditions that hinder food security.
- 3. To analyse food practices, taking into account the gender system, and how social determinants condition food security and its impact on health.
