The objective of this research is to analyse the commitment of men to long-term care.

It is the continuation of the research work carried out in the framework of the project "Men as caregivers: challenges and opportunities to reduce the gender gap and to face new care needs". We intend to move forward in this line of research, identifying the factors that could lead to a new social commitment of men to care in order to promote the democratization of care, understanding it as a social recognition and redistribution of care.

Our research will focus on the need of an active role of men in care activities of the daily life, specifically addressing dependent adults care. The engagement of men is essential to achieve a care provision system based on gender equality and social justice, and an imperative to meet the increasing demands for adults and long-term care. Neither public bodies nor the market can cope by themselves with the increasing demands of long-term care. Therefore, care provision needs to be organized across the households, the state, the private sector, and community organizations.
